Play a song in a language that your child doesn’t know in a style that appeals to him/her. What does it sound like the singer might be talking about? What is it about the music that makes him/her think so? The rhythm? Order of notes (chord progression)? The way the lyrics are sung? Find a translation of the words online and see how closely the prediction matched the reality.
Extra Credit: Take one of your child’s favorite poems or stories and set it to music selected by your child as a good “fit” with re-written lyrics.
