Using a pitch pipe, have your child picture different colors as you play each note on the scale (e.g. red for C, orange for D, yellow for E, green for F, aqua for G, blue for A, purple for B). After repeating several times, play a random note and ask what color s/he saw in their mind’s eye. Did they hit the mark? Were they close?
Extra Credit:Ā Once your child starts connecting color with tone this way, try it with different octaves…then with chords.
