Visit different outdoor environments—e.g. the playground, a field, the woods, school, your backyard, a community garden, the zoo, the beach—or even just the same one at different times of day with your child and tune into your senses. What does s/he see, feel, smell, hear…even taste? How are they different? Which sense is strongest in which environments…or at which times of day?

EXTRA CREDIT: Go into the same environment(s) the day that thunderstorms are forecasted or when it’s cloudy vs. sunny. What differences does your child notice via their senses in the different types of weather? Could s/he use this knowledge to predict weather in the future?
